Introduction to blogfolio

There are several different things you will find in my blogfolio. One thing you will find will be about me.You will also find the five NETS-T which are the standards teachers should follow. You will also find a list of artifacts that I have created during my class. There are 5 different reflections on the standard, 1 reflection for each of the 5 standards. A list of chapter reflections and a final course reflection is the last things you will find.

Standard 1
Student today need to be encouraged in all they do . It is important to make sure that as a teacher you are doing this. There is lots of technology out there available to help teacher do this. When a student is not encouraged to find out new things this can make it hard for them in the future. A student is more likely to do more advanced work if they are encouraged. A teacher need to have face to face learning with the student. A teacher can do this by encouraging the student with the use of visual aids like slide shows and other forms of technology. A teacher also needs to teach the student to think on their own. It is important for a student to be able to think on their own because they will not always have someone there to help them figure something out. When a student is encourage to think on their own it make things easier for them when they are in the upper level grades and college. If a student has the right amount of encouragement when they are in the primary grades then they will be more successful as they progress in life.

Standard 2

It is important for teachers to use technology when teaching a class. The teacher should not just use books to teach the students. The teacher can create a lesson using technology that follows in line with what the students are suppose to be learning. It is important that the first thing she does is see what the students need to learn and then plan her lesson plan according to that. The children will be bored and not be as interested if she just reads from a textbook. In a classroom the students need to have something that they can relate to. With all the technology that is available, the use if it will prompt the student to take more of an interest in what they are learning. When the teacher is planning the lesson plan she needs to consider the students’ abilities and what will work for the class. Whatever technology the teacher decides to use, needs to something that the teacher can assess. If the teacher chooses something that does not allow the students to be accessed, then it is not going to work. The teacher will not know that the students have received the information they needed to get to learn the lesson.

Standard 3

When a teacher is teaching a class, she needs to know how to work the technology she is trying to use. If a teacher is having difficulty using a technology, then the class will come to a standstill. If the teacher has knowledge of the technology it will also be easier for her to teach the technology to the students. The students will be able to ask questions and the teacher will be able to answer them. The teacher needs to have the necessary skill to work the different technologies so that what she teaches the student will be correct. If a teacher knows what she is talking about, the teacher will be more comfortable teaching the lesson. It is also a good idea that teacher use technology when communicating with other staff members, peers, parents, and students. The use of technology can let others know what is going on in the classroom. It can help the teacher communicate with parents to let them know how their child is doing or what homework the child is expected to do. The correct use of technology can also be a supportive tool in the classroom. It is a way the teacher can add information to a book lesson that she thinks is important for the student to know. It is also a way for the students to see what is going on and not just reading about it. The teacher will be able to show what is going on as well as explain the process.

Standard 4

It is important for a teacher to know and follow the rules for using technology. One of the most important things a student can learn is about plagiarism. This is when a student copies something that someone else wrote and uses it for their own work. A student needs to be taught that this is not right to do, but it is illegal. A student who does not follow this rule can fail an assignment or fall a class. For people who do this in college, if it is found out later on after they have graduated that they did this they can lose their degree. This can be a big problem if they are working in their field and the company finds out they cheated and no longer is qualified to do the job they were hired for. It is the teacher’s responsibility to make sure the students understand the consequences that can befall them. If the teacher models the correct way to do things this will enforce what the teacher is teaching the students. A teacher should also teach the students the correct etiquette for using a computer. There are certain rules that need to be followed when using a computer so that they can be comfortable and have a good etiquette when using a computer. If the teacher takes the time to make sure the students understand they will be more interested in using technology.

Standard 5

There is always something new coming out. The technology we use is always improving and making changes to the technology we use now. It is important for a teacher to keep up with any new changes that may be taking place with technology. If a teacher does not know the changes that are taking place then she may have trouble teaching the students what they need to learn about that technology. A teacher can take classes or go to workshops that can keep them up to date on what is changing. There is also always something new coming out or being developed. A lot of the students will know about the new software from their parents or other peers. A teacher needs to know about these so they can guide the students in the use of this new technology. A teacher should always strive to want to always continue in their education. Continuing education is important so the teacher knows the current information and is not teaching something that may no longer be of use. If a teacher chooses not continue education after they graduate, then they will not be effective teachers. They will not be able to teach and stay up with the standards of continuing education.

Final Course Reflection

I have learned alot in this course. I learned how to create a blog, how to create a website, and how to create a goole group. Most of the things that I learned, I would not have had the opportunty to learn had I not took this class. This made it possible for me to gain knowlege that would help me when I start teaching. I don't think I could have gained this knowledge on my own. I knew very little of what we learned in this class.
I don't think I had any trouble doing any of the assignments in this class because we were able to ask questions and were given good direction on what was expected of us. My weak point would be in creating a web site. I was given directions, but still had trouble getting the things that needed to be put on the web site. I think that needed to spend more time looking around to see what features were available when creating my site.
I hope to have time this summer to look more closely at creating this site to see where I might be able to improve. The extra time that I spend can only help me when I start teaching.
I hope that when I start teaching I can use the internet to reinforce my lessons and be able to show the students what may be going on as well as telling them. I want to be able to communicate with the students and parents using technology so that they will know what is going on and what they can expect from my class.

Chapter 8 Reflect on ways to adapting for special learners as explained within the chapter

There are quite a few students that have trouble learning in school because of a disability.
They may have trouble with comprehension, vocabulary, or abstract reasoning when they are reading. They most likely have not learned how to learn new material well. A student will often blame the teacher or the task instead of seeing that they need to do something different to process the information that they need to learn.
Visual learning strategies are one of the most used things to assist students who have trouble learning. Some different things that can be used are concept maps, story maps, story web, or semantic maps. These types of maps help the student to understand what is essential in the reading and writing.
One great type of software that can be used is Inspiration. This gives the teacher and student flexibility. Things can quickly be added or taken away to explain things better to the student. This is a learning tool that helps with the support of learning differences in students.

Chapter 3 Discuss the characteristics and functions of operating system, application, internet, and assistive software

The operating system is the master control system that serves as a foundation for application software programs. This is the main things that controls the hardware on your computer. There are several different types of operating system like Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. The operating system is usually already installed on your computer by the manufacturer when you get it.
Application software is used so that the computer can perform specific tasks. There are several well know types of application software that are used like word processing, spreadsheets, database. In my opinion, the one that is the most used is word processing. I have used this more as a student than any other type of software. There are so many things you can do with this software from letters to documents as well as flyers. This is also something that will be of great use when I am a teacher. One good use of this software would be to keep a journal, as well as doing my lesson plans.
Internet software is of great use because if allows you to browse the Web or do research on a certain topic. It is also what allows you to use email. This is very important in communication today. A lot of people use email and Internet everyday. This is how we see the news or communicate with friends, teachers, and work the Internet is how we access information that it would take hours in a library to find.
Assistive software is what is used to assist in the learning of an individual with disabilities. It can help people who are blink to be able to hear instead of read from the computer. There is also a magnifier that can make what is on the screen bigger for those who can see, but not well. There are several other types of assistive software like on screen keyboard, high contrast, and audio description.

chapter 1 reflection

I learned in chapter 1 that it important for teachers to use
technology in the classroom. I know that not all teachers use
technology in the classroom, which could be for many different
reasons. Some examples of reasons would be small schools with not
enough money, some teachers not knowing how to use technology. Another
problem is lack of access to high speed internet. Not all classrooms
have computers in the room.

There are a lot of uses for technology in the schools. One important
use for technolgy is when creating lession plans. Technology is is
good for increasing the motivation of students.

Chapter 2 reflection

In Chapter 2, I learned a lot of things I did not know. The first
thing to come to mind was the types of memory. RAM which is random
access memory is memory that has to be stored by user. This is
considered temperory memory because if you do not save it you will
lose it if the computer crashes or shuts down. ROM memory is the
permanent memory that comes on your computer from the factory. This is
considered Read only memory because you can not make changes to this
type of memory.
Another thing was the input and output devices. Input devices are used
to input things into the computer. Some examples would be keyboard and
mice. The output devices would be where it gives you the output of
what you put in. Examples would be monitors and printers.
